Low birth weight Infants

Data from the centers for disease control and prevention reveal that 8.8% of live births in
the U.S in 2019 were low birth weight. Even more startling is the race gap in infant’s birth
weights. 13.9% of black infants were born underweight. This is near twice the rate of low birth
weight white infants (7%) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021) .
Most preterm babies are subject to re-hospitalization, medical and neurodevelopmental
